Thanks to advances in treatment, more patients are living longer with cancer. However, no cancer treatment is without the risk of side effects that can severely impact a patient’s quality of life and their willingness to continue with potentially life-saving treatment.
Cancer supportive care is the prevention and management of side effects throughout a patient’s treatment journey.2 However, there is a lack of awareness of supportive care practices, sometimes leading to sub-optimal patient care. Therefore, it is important that oncologists are able to educate patients and their families about the available supportive care solutions to help manage treatment side effects, improve adherence to treatment and improve patients’ quality of life.
