Eleni Efstathiou, MD, PhD is a medical oncologist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, and she is also affiliated with the Memorial Hermann Texas Cancer Medical Center.

Dr. Efstathiou graduated with honors from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, in 1995, and is now Assistant Professor at the University of Athens and GU Medical Oncology Assistant Professor at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Efstathiou is currently studying a new class of medications that target androgen synthesis in tumors, the first in class being Abiraterone. In regards to another recent project, she has found that the Hedgehog signaling pathway is elevated as a result of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in advanced prostate cancer.
