ECCO 2017 | The value of breast cancer screening
Bettina Borisch
Bettina Borisch, MD, MPH, FRCPath of University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland discusses her talk on whether breast cancer screening should be mandatory, which was held at the European Cancer Congress of the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO) 2017 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Prof. Borisch explains the difference between organized, quality-assured programs and individual screenings. In the Netherlands for example, there has been an organized program for many years and the breast cancer-related mortality has been reduced. She further discusses the debate around the value of breast cancer screening. Prof. Borsch argues that the value of screening is evident based on the data we have, which shows a reduction in mortality.
