Alberto Bardelli, PhD, from the University of Torino, Candiolo Cancer Institute, Turin, Italy, discusses recent trials in clonal evolution of tumors at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2017 in Madrid, Spain. The CHRONOS trial (NCT03227926) investigated clonal evolution using ctDNA in colorectal cancer, which can then be tracked with ctDNA. Another option is to use clonal evolution to induce the tumor to be rejected by the immune system, which Dr Bardelli states is a very exciting concept.
