UKONS 2015 | Developing a self-management programme to support prostate and testicular cancer survivors

At the United Kingdom Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS) Annual Conference 2015, Andrew Turner, PhD, from Coventry University, Coventry, UK, discusses a qualitative study of the self-management needs of men who have survived prostate and testicular cancer for the development of iHOPE, a web-based, self-management programme. The aim of the proramme is to improve recovery amongst testicular cancer survivors. Previous work has shown that these web-based programmes have been successful for breast cancer patients. Therefore, the current course will be tailored for men with prostate and testicular cancer by encorporating prostate and testicular cancer specific information. Preliminary research has shown that prostate and testicular cancer survivors express many of the same concerns as breast cancer survivors and therefore Mr Turner explains that they are confident that the same improvements in recovery, anxiety and mental wellbeing will be seen.
