Catherine Oakley, PhD, UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS) President 2014–2016 and from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK, talks about how the UKONS 2016 conference has inspired nurses of all levels. Junior nurses express feeling inspired, with the conference being an opportunity for them to step back and look at how they can deliver better care for patients. In cancer care, especially in the UK, nurses are very knowledgeable about patient needs and this ethos should be utilized to inspire junior nurses who will develop into the leaders of the future.
