BTOG 2022 | Achieving R0 in lung cancer with surgery

Sanjay Popat, BSc, MBBS, FRCP, PhD, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, comments on various surgical methods including minimal invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) for complete resection in lung cancer. VATS was shown to result in shorter hospital stays and lower morbidity rates in the VIOLET trial (ISRCTN13472721). Prof. Popat additionally highlights the need to avoid uncertain resections (R(un)) by carrying out systemic nodal resections. This interview took place at the 20th Annual British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Conference 2022.
