Elderly patients and patients with poor performance status are frequently excluded from clinical trials, thus clinical trial data is based on a younger cohort which cannot be reliably generalized to this patient population. Dr Veluswamy highlights the importance of real-world data and statistical methods to account for selection bias in clinical trials.
