Alejandra Mendez Romero, MD, PhD, Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, Rotterdam, Netherlands, discusses the difficulties of finding the balance between killing a liver cancer tumor and preserving liver function, when treating patients with hepatocellular carcinoma with radiotherapy. Dr Romero also emphasises the need for more data to support future guidelines in this field, along with the importance of improving worldwide access to radiotherapy.
