THRIVE: mobile app & tailored messages for breast cancer on endocrine therapy
Ilana Graetz, PhD, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, outlines the objective of the randomized THRIVE Breast Cancer App study (NCT03592771), aiming to improve adherence to endocrine therapy in women with hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancer. Standard treatment involves five plus years of endocrine therapy, which effectively reduces the risk of recurrence and improves survival. However, endocrine therapy is often accompanied by severe side effects leading to low adherence rates, with estimates suggesting up to 50% of women being non-adherent within five years. The study aimed to monitor symptoms weekly, provide alerts to the oncology team, and assess the impact of tailored text messages on adherence to endocrine therapy. Secondary outcomes, such as quality of life and healthcare service utilization, were also examined. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Annual Congress in Chicago, IL.
