ASCO 2024 | S1600: reducing post-radical cystectomy complications with immune-enhancing nutrition

Jill Hamilton-Reeves, PhD, RD, CSO, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, discusses the Phase III S1600 trial (NCT03757949), which compares specialized immunonutrition (SIM) with oral nutritional support (ONS) on postoperative complications in patients with bladder cancer undergoing radical cystectomy (RC). Results indicate that receiving extra arginine, fish oil and nucleotides did not reduce complications, but two-year overall survival was improved. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
