ESMO GI 2024 | Strategically planning clinical trials to improve outcomes in pancreatic cancer

Davide Melisi, MD, PhD, University of Verona, Verona, Italy, discusses how to improve patient outcomes in metastatic pancreatic cancer, emphasizing clinical practice should involve the careful selection of patients based on their performance status and age. As demonstrated in the Phase III NAPOLI 3 trial (NCT04083235), NALIRIFOX can be offered to patients with good performance status and reasonable age, as it has shown superior activity compared to the standard gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel. For patients with poorer performance status, alternative regimens such as gemcitabine, nab-paclitaxel, and FOLFIRINOX should be considered. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
