BTOG 2024 | BTOG 2024 highlights: MARS 2 trial on mesothelioma surgery and TRACERx on lung cancer evolution

Alastair Greystoke, PhD, MBChB, PhD, MRCP, Newcastle University/Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Newcastle, UK, shares his highlights from BTOG 2024 including a session on mesothelioma, with Prof. Eric Lim presenting the MARS 2 trial (NCT02040272) results. This UK-led study investigated the role of debulking surgery in mesothelioma, revealing that surgery did not benefit patients and was associated with worse survival outcomes. Prof. Lim addressed the criticisms of the study, providing valuable insights for sharing with colleagues and patients nationwide. Additionally, Prof. Charles Swanton delivered an exceptional talk on the TRACERx study (NCT01888601), offering fascinating insights into the evolution, growth, and spread of lung cancers, and discussing future possibilities for cancer prevention. This interview took place at the BTOG 2024 congress in Belfast, UK.
