ESMO 2024 | pCR and survival after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in stage I TNBC: a registry-based study

Manon De Graaf, MD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, shares findings from a study which analyzed outcomes in patients with stage I triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by surgery. Among 1,144 patients, 57.3% achieved a pathologic complete response (pCR). Younger age (less than 50 years) and higher tumor grade were associated with higher pCR rates, while lobular carcinoma predicted lower pCR. Achieving pCR was linked to improved overall survival (OS), with a 4-year OS of 98% in patients with pCR versus 93% without. These findings support NACT use in early-stage TNBC. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
