ESMO 2024 | EA3163: chemo vs surgery + PORT for organ preservation in T3/T4 sinonasal SCC

Nabil Saba, MD, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Atlanta, GA, discusses results from the Phase II EA3163 trial (NCT03493425), which investigated neoadjuvant chemotherapy for structure preservation (SP) in patients with resectable nonparanasal sinus squamous cell carcinoma (NPNSCC) requiring orbital or skull base resection. The study compared standard surgery and postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) with or without neoadjuvant chemotherapy (docetaxel and cisplatin). While the trial closed early due to slow accrual, findings showed a trend toward improved SP rates in the chemotherapy group. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
