Sung-Bae Kim, MD, PhD, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea, comments on the Phase III OPTIMAL trial (NCT03315364), which evaluated oral versus intravenous (IV) paclitaxel in the management of HER2-negative chemotherapy-naive metastatic breast cancer. Prof. Kim highlights that the study’s primary endpoint of progression-free survival (PFS) was met, and the secondary endpoint of overall survival (OS) was also comparable. This suggests that oral paclitaxel could be a viable alternative to IV paclitaxel in this patient population. This interview took place during the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
