SABCS 2025 | Early breast cancer recurrence predicted by tissue-free ctDNA assay

Arielle Medford, MD, Massachusetts General Cancer Center, Boston, MA, discusses the main findings from a study on tissue-free epigenomic ctDNA analysis in early breast cancer patients. A tissue-free epigenomic ctDNA assay was evaluated in 85 high-risk early breast cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy. ctDNA was detectable across subtypes and stages, and all patients who later recurred had baseline ctDNA present. Post-operative ctDNA strongly predicted distant recurrence, with higher tumor fraction indicating worse outcomes. This interview took place at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) 2025 Meeting in San Antonio, TX.
