EAU 2026 | Treatment de-intensification in NMIBC: selecting the right patients

Roberto Contieri, MD, Humanitas University, Rozzano, Italy, discusses the potential benefits of an de-escalated treatment strategy as an alternative to the classic approach for patients with low-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), including office fulguration, laser ablation, active surveillance, and chemoablation. Dr Contieri highlights the importance of selecting the right patients for this approach, such as those with a history of low-grade tumors and small recurrences, and notes that novel delivery systems and agents, such as mitomycin and UGN-102, are showing promising results in achieving complete response rates. This interview took place at the 41st Annual EAU Congress in London, UK.
