ASCO 2026 | Stress and depression linked to tumor transcriptional signatures in breast cancer

Shipra Gandhi, MD, MS, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, explores associations between patient-reported psychological distress and ER-specific tumor transcriptional signatures in breast cancer, using RNA sequencing of tumor samples. Results identified distinct transcriptional signatures linked to high stress and depressive symptoms, involving immune regulation, proliferation, and differentiation pathways, with concordant overall survival associations. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
