Marie Hanaoka, MD, Institute of Science Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, discusses concerns around data ownership, patient consent and algorithmic transparency when considering the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into robotic surgery. Dr Hanaoka highlights the importance of validating AI systems using data from multiple institutions and the need for careful evaluation of real time AI assistance during surgery.
