ESMO GI 2026 | Categorizing older patients with rectal cancer to guide treatment decision-making

David Sebag-Montefiore, MBBS, MRCP, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK, describes how older patients with rectal cancer can be categorized using the G8 geriatric screening tool, which considers different patient domains including fitness, diet and medical conditions. Patients are categorized as either frail, vulnerable or fit, which can be used to guide treatment decision making. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancer 2026 Congress in Munich, Germany.
