WCLC 2026 | Improving early lung cancer diagnosis in Brazil with mobile units
Ricardo Sales dos Santos, MD, PhD, SENAI CIMATEC University Center, Salvador, Brazil, discusses the importance of early diagnosis in lung cancer, highlighting that less than 10% of lung cancer cases in Brazil are diagnosed at an early stage. The deployment of mobile units in the BRELT3 study to perform over 2,000 CAT scans in small cities in northeast Brazil led to the increased detection lung cancer. Most of the cases were at stages where surgery was possible, which increased the chance of early diagnosis. This interview took place at the IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
