ESMO 2026 | Equitable cancer drug pricing and the global challenge of healthcare spending

Hemant Malhotra, MBBS, MD, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Hospital, Jaipur, India, highlights the issue of exorbitant costs of cancer drugs and the need for a more equitable distribution of healthcare funds. Dr Malhotra highlights the importance of addressing this issue, not only for low- to middle-income countries, but also for developed countries, as excessive spending on cancer treatment can divert resources away from other essential healthcare needs. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
