Avani Athauda, MBBS, MRCP, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, describes a published meta-analysis in which data from four large randomised trials was pooled to evaluate the impact of sex and age on survival outcomes in patients treated for early esophagogastric cancer. Results from this analysis suggest that females had significantly improved survival and in fit patients, age had no significant effect on survival.
