Alberto Sobrero
Academic History
Alberto Sobrero, MD, is the Head of the Medical Oncology Unit at Ospendale San Martino in Genoa, Italy. Prof. Sobrero received his MD from the University of Genoa. Following this, he served as a postdoctoral associate in Medical Oncology and later as an Associate Research Scientist at Yale University, New Haven, CT. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Yale Affiliated Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, CT. He has held a position as an Associate Professor in Medical Oncology at the University of Florence, in Florence, Italy, and the University of Udine in Udine, Italy.
Prof. Sobrero has chaired the Protocol Review Committee of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, a member of the faculty of the ASCO-FECS Clinical Research courses, served on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, as well as serving on the Scientific Committee of ASCO and the Educational Committee of ESMO. Later he served as the Chair of the ESMO Nominating Committee. He served as the Scientific Chair of ESMO 2017 in Madrid, Spain as well as a member of the ESMO Magnitude of Clinical Benefit Scale Working Group.
Speaking on gastrointestinal oncology
Prof. Sobrero’s main research interests the designing and analysis of clinical trials on gastrointestinal cancer treatments. Recent research has involved the investigation prognostic predictive tools for colon and colorectal cancer. An example of recent research includes the use of the adjuvant therapy, CAPOX, to treat patients with stage III colon cancer
