Academic History

Anna Maria Di Giacomo, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Neurosciences and the Head of the Phase I/II Clinical Trials Inter-departmental Program at the University of Siena, Siena, Italy. Dr Di Giacomo received her medical degree from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy, and completed fellowships at Sapienza University of Rome and Fatebenefratelli Isola Tiberina – Gemelli Isola, Rome, Italy.

She is an active member of multiple organizations, including the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Dr Di Giacomo also serves on the Immuno-Oncology Steering Committee for ESMO.

Speaking on immune checkpoint blockade and combination immunotherapy in melanoma

Dr Di Giacomo’s key research interest is in the use and developments of immunotherapies across solid tumors, with a particular focus on melanoma. She has led and contributed to trials investigating the mechanisms of response and resistance to immune checkpoints inhibitors, including combination strategies with epigenetic agents. As a principal and co-investigator, she has been involved in numerous national and international clinical trials evaluating novel immunotherapies and targeted therapies, including studies examining melanoma with brain metastases.
