Academic History
Anwaar Saeed, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Chief of the Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology Program at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr Saeed also serves as the Vice Chair of the Colorectal Cancer Committee of the NSABP Foundation.
Dr Saeed completed her MD at the Arabian Gulf University in Manama, Bahrain. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, MO. Dr Saaed went onto complete fellowships in Hematology and Oncology as well as Gastrointestinal Oncology at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
Speaking on gastrointestinal cancers
Dr Saeed’s research interests lie in the treatment and management of gastric, esophageal, colon and hepatocellular cancers using immunomodulatory approaches. She has published more than 150 peer reviewed papers, posters, and book chapter, as well as leading more than 40 clinical trials. She led the CAMILLA trial that investigated the efficacy of cabozantinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and durvalumab, a PD-L1 inhibitor in patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancers. She has also led the Phase III STELLAR-303 trial, which aimed to deduce the best course of action for patients with microsatellite stable and microsatellite instability-low metastatic colorectal cancer.
