Academic history

Ben Tran, MBBS, FRACP, is a leading Medical Oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, where he heads the Genitourinary (GU) Medical Team. He also holds the position of Associate Professor at the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia, and has been serving as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Parkville, Australia, since 2012. Additionally, Dr Tran leads the Phase I group at Cancer Trials Australia and chairs the germ cell subcommittee for the Australian and New Zealand Urological and Prostate Cancer Trials (ANZUP) Group.

Dr Tran completed a Fellowship in Drug Development and Urological Cancers at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, Canada, following his oncology training in Australia. There, he developed expertise in managing GU cancers, conducting Phase I trials along with managing extensive multi-center patient data sets.

Speaking on solid tumors and prostate cancer

Dr Tran has been actively involved in many notable clinical trials. He contributed to a first-in-human, dose-escalation Phase 1 study of the ERK1/2 inhibitor ATG-017, aimed at evaluating its safety and efficacy in patients with advanced solid tumors. With a strong interest in men’s health, he has participated in the PRECEPT (PRostatE CancEr Prognosis and Treatment) trial, which focuses on integrating advanced prognostic tools and personalized treatment approaches to better manage prostate cancer. He also played a role in a Phase I study investigating the oral gamma-secretase inhibitor RO4929097 in combination with gemcitabine for the treatment of advanced solid tumors.
