Bishoy Faltas, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Cell, and Developmental Biology, and an attending oncologist in the Genitourinary Oncology Program in the Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY. He is also the Chief Research Officer of the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine, New York, NY.
Dr Faltas completed his medical degree at Assiut University, Asyut, Egypt and his Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine. He also completed a research fellowship in the laboratory of Dr Mark Rubin. Dr Faltas is a member of the editorial board of the ASCO Post, and has received the Scott-Wadler Fellow Research award and the Weill Department of Medicine Fellow Award in Research.
Speaking on precision medicine and molecular profiling in bladder cancer
Dr Faltas’ research interest is in primarily bladder cancer, with an emphasis on personalizing treatment to a patient’s molecular profile. He has been involved in several clinical trials in this area, including Phase III trials of immune checkpoint inhibitors in urothelial cancer. His laboratory studies disease mechanisms in bladder cancer to understand what drives the evolution of cancers and works to improve patient outcomes through translating basic science into clinical trials.
