Brian Van Tine

Academic History

Brian van Tine, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, and completed his PhD and MD at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, AL. His post-graduate training was completed at Washington University, where he completed an oncology fellowship and his internal medicine residency.

Prof. van Tine holds multiple appointments and committee positions, including Co-director of the Center for Early Phase Therapeutics, and most recently became a permanent member of the NIH Mechanisms of Cancer Therapeutics-1 [MCT1] study section. He also currently serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Orthopaedic Research. He is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology, the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, the American Academy of Cancer Research, and the American Society for Clinical Oncology.

Speaking on genetic factors and their impact on sarcoma therapies

Prof. van Tine continues to focus his research and work on improving treatment strategies for soft tissue and bone sarcomas, playing a role in multiple clinical trials investigating the impact of genetic factors in rare tumors. He aims to delineate the genetics of sarcomas to uncover potential therapeutic targets, utilizing genomic sequencing and human-in-mouse xenografting. His research has led to multiple findings such as the therapeutic potential of targeting loss of ASS1 expression and arginine deprivation therapy.
