Academic History

Changhoon Yoo, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist and Associate Professor at Asan Medical Center (AMC) in Seoul, South Korea. He received his medical education at the University of Ulsan, Ulsan, South Korea. He subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in oncology at the University of Ulsan College of Medicine. Dr Yoo was additionally a visiting scholar in hematology/oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles, CA.

Speaking on novel therapies for gastrointestinal cancer

Dr Yoo’s research focuses on hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers, with particular expertise in hepatocellular carcinoma and biliary tract cancers. His work spans translational and clinical research, including the development of novel systemic therapies, immunotherapy and targeted therapy combinations, and biomarker-driven precision medicine. He has led numerous early- and late-phase clinical trials evaluating new treatment strategies for advanced liver and biliary tract cancers, while also investigating molecular profiling, prognostic and predictive biomarkers, and mechanisms of treatment response and resistance to optimize personalized care for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies.
