Academic History

Domenica Lorusso, MD, PhD, is a Full Professor at Humanitas University, Rozzano, Italy and Director of the Operative Unit of Gynecological Oncology at Humanitas San Pio X. She has previously held the position of Associate Professor at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy. Prof. Lorusso received her MD from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy, her specialization in Gynecology and Obstetrics cum laude at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, and her PhD in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Parma, Parma, Italy.

Prof. Lorusso has previously led the Clinical Research Development Unit at ‘Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A Gemelli IRCCS’, in Rome. Prof. Lorusso is a member of the Board of Directors of the Gynecological Cancer Intergroup and the European Society of Gynecology. She is a member of the European Network of Gynecological Oncological Trial groups, where she chairs the Gynecological Cancer Academy.

Speaking on gynecological cancers

Prof. Lorusso has been a key investigator in gynecological cancers for more than 25 years, being involved in or leading more than 250 clinical trials. Her recent research has involved assessing the potential of cemiplimab and pembrolizumab to treat recurrent and metastatic cervical cancer. Other research focuses have included the use of chemotherapies to treat cervical cancers.
