Filippo Pietriantonio, MD, is a Medical Oncologist at Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy. He attended the University of Parma, Parma, Italy, to earn his degree in Medicine before relocating to the University of Milan, Milan, Italy, to receive his specialization in Medical Oncology.

Having co-authored approximately 200 papers in international journals, Dr Pietriantonio has a distinguished academic profile. He is also an active member of several prominent organizations in the field of oncology, including the Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica (AIOM), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

Speaking on clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancers

Dr Pietrantonio focuses his clinical practice and research on gastrointestinal cancers, particularly in treating patients with colorectal and esophago-gastric cancers. He has been deeply engaged in clinical and translational research, working to develop new and effective treatment strategies for these types of cancer. His involvement in the Phase II INFINITY clinical trial, which assessed tremelimumab and durvalumab as neoadjuvant treatment for patients with microsatellite instable (MSI)-high resectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (GAC/GEJAC), highlights his dedication to advancing therapeutic options in gastrointestinal oncology. He has also played a role in the AtezoTRIBE trial, which evaluated the combination of FOLFOXIRI, bevacizumab, and atezolizumab as neoadjuvant treatment for patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).
