Academic History

Georgina Long, PhD, MBBS, FRACP, FAHMS, is Co-Medical Director of the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) and Chair of Melanoma Medical Oncology and Translational Research at The University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital, North Sydney, Australia. In 1996, she earned a PhD in Chemistry from Sydney University, specializing in anti-cancer agents and DNA binding, for which she received the University Medal in Organic Chemistry. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, CA, she returned to Australia, completing her medical degree in 2001.

Speaking on advances in melanoma therapy and research

Prof. Long leads a team dedicated to targeted therapies and immuno-oncology, playing a key role in Phase I-III clinical trials for melanoma. She has made significant contributions to the field, particularly through the Phase III NADINA trial, which compares neoadjuvant immunotherapy to standard care. Alongside her trial leadership, Prof. Long continues to investigate biomarkers and new treatments for melanoma, contributing to global discussions on immuno-oncology through her presentations at international conferences.
