Gerry Hanna

Prof. Gerry Hanna, MBBCh, PhD, MRCP, FRCR, FRANZCR, is a consultant radiation oncologist at St Lukes Radiation Oncology Network and the Trinity St James Cancer Institute in Dublin, Ireland. He is the Marie Curie Professor of Clinical Oncology at Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, and Chair of Clinical Oncology at Trinity College Dublin and St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON), Dublin, Ireland. Prof. Hanna holds honorary affiliations with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, and Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast, UK. Prior to this, Prof. Hanna served as Director of Radiation Oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, and Chair of Division for Cancer and Specialist Medicine at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Belfast, UK.
Prof. Hanna completed his medical degree at Queen’s University Belfast, and postgraduate training at the Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital, Belfast, UK. Following his PhD fellowship, he was awarded the Royal College of Radiologists’ Keith Durrant Memorial Travelling Fellowship, for which he pursued further fellowship at the Vrije University Medical Centre, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Speaking on combination therapies in lung cancer
Prof. Hanna’s research focuses on lung cancer, particularly the use of PET/CT in radiotherapy planning, mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance, and the combination of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy with systemic therapies and immunotherapy. He was the chief investigator of the Peter Mac ACRF Radiation Immuno-oncology Program and the International Atomic Energy Agency’s PERTAIN study. Prof. Hanna is also a member of the TMG for several key UK studies, including HALT, SARON, and CONFIRM. He also holds affiliations with various professional bodies which aim to expand novel research in the field of lung cancer and lung cancer therapeutics.
