Guru Sonpavde, MD, serves as the Medical Director of Genitourinary Oncology, Assistant Director of the Clinical Research Unit and Christopher K. Glanz Chair for Bladder Cancer Research at the AdventHealth Cancer Institute, Orlando, FL. Dr Sonpavde completed his medical oncology fellowship at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
He previously served as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, AL, from 2012-2017, before becoming Bladder Cancer Director at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA from 2017-2022. Dr Sonpavde is a member of Southwest Oncology Group, Scientific Advisory Board of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), and the Bladder Cancer Task Force of U.S NCI GU Steering Committee.
Speaking on drug development and translational research in GU cancers
Dr Sonpavde is an expert in genitourinary cancers with a primary focus on clinical trials to develop new drugs and combinations to treat urologic cancers, particularly bladder cancer. He has also led translational projects and developed prognostic classifications and endpoints focused on bladder cancer.
