Hidehito Horinouchi

Academic History

Hidehito Horinouchi, MD, PhD, is a Medical Oncologist and Assistant Chief at the National Cancer Center Hospital, Tokyo, Japan. He received his medical degree from Kagoshima University, Kagoshima, Japan, and his PhD at Juntendo University, Tokyo, Japan. Dr Horinouchi subsequently completed his fellowship and residency at St. Luke’s International Hospital, Tokyo, Japan. In addition to his current role, he is the Secretary General of the Lung Cancer Study Group in the Japan Clinical Oncology Group.

Speaking on developing novel treatments for lung caner

Dr Horinouchi’s research primarily focuses on multimodal treatment strategies for thoracic malignancies such as chemotherapy, targeted agents, immunotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy. He has led early-phase clinical trials for novel agents such as telisotuzumab vedotin and investigated mechanisms of resistance such as overcoming acquired EGFR‑TKI resistance through cytotoxic chemotherapy.

In addition, Dr Horinouchi investigates serious adverse effects of cancer therapies, such as drug‑induced interstitial lung disease, and works on identifying incidence and prognostic factors in real‑world settings
