Academic History

Icro Meattini, MD, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Biomedical Sciences “M. Serio” of the University of Florence in Florence, Italy. He is a Clinical Oncologist at the Radiation Oncology Unit of the Oncology Department at the Florence University Hospital, here he is responsible for the Outpatients Clinics Unit, Clinical Trials Unit and leads the Clinical Oncology group of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

Dr Meattini is an active member of the European Society for Radiation Oncology (ESTRO), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), and the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO). He has an active involvement in the ESTRO and EORTC network, presently serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the EORTC Breast Cancer Group (BCG) and of the Radiation Oncology Scientific Council (ROSC). He served as the Chair of the Breast Cancer Group of AIRO and founded the Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Group (COBCG) cooperative network.

Speaking on radiotherapy for breast cancer

Dr Meattini leads research on breast cancer, multimodal treatments, oligometastatic disease, cardiac prevention toxicity, partial breast irradiation, and optimization of clinical trials research. He has investigated the use of radiotherapy and immunotherapies for the treatment and management of breast cancer. Dr Meattini’s research has focused on the challenges in the management of breast cancer in older patients and aiming to find solutions to these.
