Iris Zalaudek, MD, PhD, is Professor of Dermatology and Venereology at University of Trieste, Trieste, Italy, and is Chair of the Department of Dermatology and Center for Sexually Transmitted Disease in the University Hospital Giuliano Isontina, Trieste, Italy. Prof. Zalaudek received her medical degree at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz, Austria, and was habilitated at the Medical University of Graz, Austria. She was also a research fellow at the Second University of Naples, Italy, and the first female President of the International Society of Dermoscopy from 2016-2021.
Speaking on dermatology and melanocytic tumors
Prof. Zalaudek is a renowned expert in the field of dermatologic oncology. She has extensively worked on dermatoscopy and non-invasive imaging for early skin cancer detection, as well as refining melanoma follow-up strategies to reduce overdiagnosis. Recent topics of interest include the growing impact of AI and advanced imaging in improving melanoma diagnosis and staging.
Her work has been lauded by multiple organizations, where she has been nominated among the 50 most influential women in dermatology in 2020, and was the top researcher at the University of Graz and at the University of Trieste in 2008, 2020, and 2021. She has additionally been awarded the Certificate of Appreciation Awards in the International Leadership of Dermatology by the by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS).
