Academic History

J. Randolph Hecht, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), CA. He is director of the UCLA Gastrointestinal Oncology Program and Carol and Saul Rosenzweig Chair for Cancer Therapies Development. Prof. Hecht earned his medical degree at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, VA, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. He also completed fellowships in Gastroenterology and Medical Oncology at UCLA.

Speaking on treatment of gastrointestinal cancers

Prof. Hecht is a clinical researcher in the field of gastrointestinal tract cancers. His work revolves around molecular biology, early detection, and different approaches to treatment. Currently, he is lead researcher of a number of both large international and smaller trials, including Phase II-III trials involving novel immune and CAR-T therapies and an international randomized Phase II trial for patients with second-line metastatic colorectal cancer using LOXL2 antibody.
