Academic History

Janice Mehnert, MD, is the Associate Director for Clinical Research at Perlmutter Cancer Center, New York, NY, and Director of the Melanoma Medical Oncology Program at the center. In addition, she is a Professor of Medicine at New York University Grossman School of Medicine, New York, NY. Prof. Mehnert completed her medical studies at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, NJ, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY, and a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT.

Prof. Mehnert has previously served as the Chair of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Melanoma and Skin Cancer Scientific Committee and has held leadership positions on several international committees, including the National Cancer Institute’s Drug Steering Committee.

Speaking on precision oncology and immunotherapy in skin cancers

Prof. Mehnert is an expert in the treatment of skin cancers, and has been involved in several international clinical trials of novel agents, with an emphasis on novel immunotherapies. She was a key investigator of the KEYNOTE-028 trial which evaluated pembrolizumab in PD-L1-positive advanced solid tumors. Prof. Mehnert has also been involved in research which has led to US Food and Drug Administration approval of immunotherapy for aggressive neuroendocrine tumors.
