Jeremie Calais, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Theranostics and Clinical Research Programs of the Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division and an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in Los Angeles, CA. Dr Calais obtained his medical degree from the University of Paris, Paris, France, before completing his residency in Nuclear Medicine at the University of Rouen School of Medicine, Rouen, France. Dr Calais completed two fellowships in nuclear cardiology and oncology imaging, at the Hospital Xavier Bichat of the University of Paris, Paris, France, and at the Henri Becquerel Cancer Center of the University of Rouen, Rouen, France, respectively. In addition, he has obtained an MSc and a PhD from the University of Paris-Saclay, Paris, France, and is board certified by the French Society of Nuclear Medicine.
Dr Calais is a member of multiple organizations and committees, including the Prostate Theranostics and Imaging Centre of Excellence (ProsTIC), the Correlative Imaging Council (CIC) of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), the Institute of Urologic Oncology at UCLA and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre of the University of Melbourne.
Speaking on theranostics and PSMA/PET imaging in prostate cancer
Dr Calais’ research interest is primarily in the development of diagnostic and therapeutic radioligands. He uses PSMA PET/CT imaging for phenotyping, planning and response assessment and is involved in the development of novel tracers. He has participated in multiple trials evaluating the first FDA-approved PSMA-targeted PET imaging drug, [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11, including as the principal investigator for the Phase III study that formed the basis of the New Drug Application. Dr Calais has also conducted research investigating 177Lu-PSMA-617, the first PSMA-targeted radioligand approved for the treatment of prostate cancer.
