Academic History

Laurence Albiges, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist specializing in genitourinary cancers and currently serves as Head of the Department of Oncology and Vice Chair of the Cancer Medicine Department at Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France. She completed her medical training in Paris and joined the faculty at Gustave Roussy, where she has led major academic and institutional initiatives. In 2018, she earned a certification in medical pedagogy and was twice elected as Gustave Roussy’s representative to the Paris-Sud Medical University Council. She also launched a multi-university diploma (DIU) program in genitourinary oncology to train medical oncologists, urologists, and radiation oncologists.

Prof. Albiges chairs the French Genitourinary Oncology Group and contributes to several national and international scientific boards, including the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA), the European International Kidney Cancer Symposium (EIKCS), and the European Multidisciplinary Congress on Urological Cancers (EMUC). She is a member of the GETUG steering committee, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and serves on the European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines panel for kidney cancer.

Speaking on clinical trials for metastatic renal cell carcinoma

Prof. Albiges specializes in the development of novel therapies for renal cell carcinoma (RCC), including non-clear cell subtypes, with a focus on targeted agents and immune checkpoint inhibitors for metastatic disease. She serves as a national and global coordinating investigator for numerous investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored Phase II and III trials, and collaborates closely with early-phase drug development teams on RCC-focused studies.
