Academic History

Manmeet Ahluwalia, MD, MBA, FASCO, is the Chief Scientific Officer, Chief of Medical Oncology, Deputy Director and Fernandez Family Endowed Chair in Cancer Research at Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute in Miami, FL. He is also a Professor of Translational Medicine at Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

Prof. Ahluwalia obtained his medical degree at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, India, and completed a Research Fellowship in the Department of Pathobiology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, Cleveland, OH, and a fellowship in Hematology & Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY.

Prof. Ahluwalia was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and serves currently as the Chair of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) Brain Tumor Working Group. He chairs the Scientific Review Committee of the International Gamma Knife Research Foundation and has received several prestigious awards throughout his career.

Speaking on developments in primary brain tumors and brain metastases

Prof. Ahluwalia’s clinical and research expertise is in the management of primary brain tumors and brain metastases. He has designed and led several clinical trials evaluating novel immunotherapies and targeted therapies, such as the Phase II trial of SurVaxM for glioblastoma. Prof. Ahluwalia is also the principal investigator for potentially paradigm-changing studies examining low-intensity focused-ultrasound for blood-brain-barrier disruption for primary brain tumors and brain metastases, including metastases from non-small cell lung cancer.
