Academic History

Michail Ignatiadis, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Breast Medical Oncology Clinic at the Jules Bordet Institute, Brussels, Belgium, and Chair of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Breast Cancer Group. He earned his medical degree at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and subsequently completed his PhD at the University of Crete, Greece, focusing on oncology research. Dr Ignatiadis also leads the Academic Trials Promoting Team at the Jules Bordet Institute, advancing innovative research across various tumor types and disciplines.

Dr Ignatiadis has a particular interest in drug and biomarker development for breast cancer, contributing to notable studies such as the TREAT ctDNA and ALEXANDRA/IMpassion030 trials. His work in the field of blood-based biomarkers, especially liquid biopsies, is globally acknowledged. Beyond this, he has served as a reviewer for various organizations such as the French National Cancer Institute, the European Research Council, and the Marie-Curie Fellowships.

Dr Ignatiadis leads large-scale research initiatives investigating novel treatments such as targeted therapies and immunotherapies. He places emphasis on the personalization of treatment through integrating biomarker discovery and molecular diagnostics. His research in liquid biopsies and blood-based biomarkers aims to enhance the early detection and monitoring of breast cancer, facilitating more precise and effective treatment approaches.
