Academic History

Nataliya Uboha, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist and Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison, WI, where she is a faculty member in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Palliative Care. She also serves as Faculty Leader of the Early Phase Oncology Therapeutics Program at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), and co-directs the Wisconsin Oncology Network.

Dr Uboha earned her medical degree and PhD in Molecular Neuroscience from Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by a fellowship in medical hematology and oncology at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT. She holds multiple regional and national leadership positions, including Chair of the ECOG-ACRIN Upper GI Working Group, Co-Chair of the National Cancer Institute Upper GI Taskforce, and member of the NCCN Guidelines Committee for esophageal and gastric cancers. She also plays an active role within the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), serving as Scientific Committee Track Chair for the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting and as a member of the ASCO Guidelines Committee for upper GI cancers.

Speaking on translational and early-phase trials in GI malignancies

Dr Uboha specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, with particular emphasis on hepatobiliary and gastroesophageal malignancies. Her research focuses on the development of early-phase and biomarker-driven clinical trials, including novel therapies for neuroendocrine tumors, esophageal cancers, and pancreatic malignancies. She serves as the faculty lead for the UW Carbone Phase I group, also known as the Cancer Therapy Discovery and Development (CTD2) team. She also co-leads the Basket Disease-Oriented Team (DOT), which conducts biomarker-based trials across cancer types. Through these efforts, Dr Uboha is advancing precision oncology and expanding access to innovative therapies for patients with GI malignancies.
