Neal Navani

Academic History

Neal Navani, MA, MSc, PhD, FRCP, is a Professor of Respiratory Medicine at University College London (UCL), London, UK and a Consultant in Thoracic Medicine at University College London Hospital. Prof. Navani completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge and UCL, and trained in respiratory medicine at the Brompton and Hammersmith Hospitals. He was awarded a Medical Research Council fellowship and completed his PhD at UCL. He also holds an MSc in Clinical Trials and Biostatistics from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Prof. Navani is Senior Clinical Lead of the UK National Lung Cancer Audit and serves on the steering committee of the British Thoracic Oncology Group. He is also the respiratory representative on the UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Lung Cancer Guideline Committee and Quality Standards Committee and Co-Chair of the British Thoracic Society guideline group on lung nodules.

Speaking on lung cancer diagnosis, screening and management

Prof. Navani ‘s clinical and research expertise is in the diagnosis, early detection and management of lung cancer, with a particular focus on improving the investigation and risk stratification of pulmonary nodules. His work also investigates novel techniques for lung cancer diagnosis and screening, such as current research trialing robotic bronchoscopy and the use of AI in cancer prognosis. In addition, Prof. Navani contributes to the development and implementation of national clinical guidelines and quality standards for lung cancer care.
