Academic History

Neal Shore, MD, FACS is the Medical Director of the Carolina Urologic Research Center and practices with Atlantic Urology Clinics in Myrtle Beach, SC. A graduate of Duke University and Duke University Medical School, Durham, NC, Dr Shore completed a six-month clinical research fellowship in Pretoria, South Africa, before completing his General Surgery and Urology training at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr Shore serves on the boards of the Society of Urologic Oncology, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, the Duke Global Health Institute and the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference Scientific Steering Committee. In addition, he serves on the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) Guidelines Committee for Bladder Cancer, both the Innovation Committee and the Research Council for the American Urological Association, and the SITC Prostate Committee. Dr Shore is also Chair of the International Prostate Forum and the Co-Chair of the Bladder and Kidney Cancer Academy and the Prostate Cancer Academy.

Speaking on advances in genitourinary cancers

Dr Shore’s clinical research focuses on genitourinary cancers, particularly on prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. He has served as an investigator for over 400 clinical trials examining emerging therapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies and androgen-receptor pathway-directed treatments. Dr Shore has served on the steering committee of major international trials including PROTEUS, PSMAfore and DaroAcT. He has also been a lead investigator for several international trials such as the CREST trial of sasanlimab with BCG for high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer and the EMBARK trial evaluating enzalutamide alone or in combination in high-risk non-metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer.
