Pavlos Msaouel, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Genitourinary Medical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. Dr Msaouel received both his MD and PhD from the University of Athens Medical School, Athens, Greece, before completing his internal medicine residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Jacobi Medical Center, New York, NY. He then completed a fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, during which he served as Chief Fellow. Dr Msaouel is a member of several organizations, including the Kidney Cancer Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, KCCure and the American Association for Cancer Research.

Speaking on renal medullary carcinoma

Dr Msaouel’s research focuses on kidney cancers, with a particular emphasis on rare subtypes such as renal medullary carcinoma (RMC). He is a leading expert in RMC, and was involved in leading the first clinical trial dedicated RMC. His laboratory is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying renal cell carcinomas and translating this research into new therapeutic targets. Dr Msaouel is also the principal investigator of multiple completed and ongoing clinical trials investigating novel treatments for kidney cancers.
