Academic History
Sibylle Loibl, MD, PhD, is Chair of the German Breast Group (GBG) and Chief Executive Officer of the GBG Forschungs GmbH, Neu-Isenburg, Germany. Dr Loibl is also an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Germany. She completed her doctoral studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany, and trained in gynecology and obstetrics at university hospitals in Heidelberg and Frankfurt.
Dr Loibl was the first Co-Chair of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Breast Conference and is an active faculty member of numerous international conferences. She is an active member of several organizations and has been contributed to international breast cancer guidelines, including those of ESMO and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Speaking on advances in early breast cancer treatment
Dr Loibl is an expert in breast cancer treatment, and has been involved in the development and conduct of many practice-changing clinical trials. Her research has focused particularly on neoadjuvant systemic therapies to improve outcomes and guide subsequent treatment. As Chair of the GBG, she has overseen several clinical trials, including the Gepar series, which has evaluated a range of neoadjuvant treatments in early-stage and high-risk breast cancer. Her research also focuses on the management of breast cancer during pregnancy and in young women, to optimize the safety and efficacy of systemic treatment in these populations.
